Account deletion

Delete your account, your way.

Vesper is operated by DECCANWAVE LABS (OPC) PRIVATE LIMITED. You can delete your account and most of your data at any time, either from inside the app or by writing to us. This page explains exactly how, and what happens after.

01TL;DR

  • Open Vesper → Settings → Danger zone → Delete account. Confirm. Done.
  • Or email support@vesperchat.live from the phone number on your account. We respond within 30 days.
  • Most data is removed immediately. A few records are retained for the limited periods described below (legal, anti-abuse, financial).
  • Deletion is permanent. You can sign up again with the same phone number, but the new account starts blank — no messages, no contacts, no balance.

02In-app: the fastest way

The in-app flow is one tap of a button — your account is queued for deletion immediately and most server-side data is removed in minutes.

  1. Open the Vesper app and sign in with the phone number on your account.
  2. Tap your avatar (top-right of the home screen) to open the side panel.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Scroll down to the Danger zone section.
  5. Tap Delete account.
  6. Read the confirmation screen, then tap Delete permanently.
  7. You will be signed out. The account is queued for deletion.

If you can't access the app — for example, you've lost the phone number — use the email path below instead.

03By email

Write to support@vesperchat.live with:

  • The phone number on your account (in E.164 format, e.g. +91XXXXXXXXXX).
  • Subject line: Delete my account.
  • A short note confirming that you want your account and data deleted.

We respond within 30 days as required by India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and usually within 72 hours. If we need to verify it's really you, we'll ask you to confirm a one-time code sent to that phone number — we will never ask you for a password (Vesper doesn't use passwords).

04What gets deleted

When your account is deleted, the following are removed from our active systems:

  • Your profile — phone number, display name, handle, city, date of birth, gender preferences, avatar configuration.
  • Your direct messages — both copies (yours and the recipient's, where technically possible).
  • Your room messages — deleted or anonymised so they no longer link to you.
  • Your mood sessions and mood history.
  • Your saved contacts (your "Circle").
  • Your call records (caller, callee, start, end, duration) — call audio is never recorded in the first place.
  • Your push notification tokens — you stop receiving notifications.
  • Your wallet balance and transaction history.

05What we have to keep (and why)

A small set of records is retained after deletion, only for the limited periods and only for the specific reasons listed:

  • Reports and moderation history (12 months) — so a banned user cannot evade the ban by re-registering with the same phone number.
  • Server logs (30 days) — IP address, timestamp, request path. Used for security and abuse investigations. Auto-deleted after 30 days.
  • Payment records (as required by Indian tax law, up to 8 years) — transaction IDs and amounts for in-app coin purchases. Kept only for statutory accounting and audit; not used for anything else.
  • Backup snapshots (up to 30 days) — operational database backups are retained for disaster recovery. Your data ages out of the backups within 30 days of account deletion.

06After deletion

  • Permanent. Once deletion completes, the data cannot be restored. We do not keep a recovery copy.
  • No refunds for unused coins. In-app coin purchases are consumed credits; we do not refund unused balance on account deletion. Purchase-related refunds (charge-backs, mistaken purchases) go through Google Play or Apple App Store, not through us.
  • You can sign up again. The same phone number can register a new account, but it starts blank — no past messages, no past contacts, no past balance.
  • Banned accounts cannot return. If your account was terminated by moderation for severe violations, that ban is enforced against the phone number — re-registering would be a violation of the Terms.
