Social apps optimised the wrong thing. They got really good at counting — likes, followers, watch time — and really bad at the thing those numbers were supposed to measure: actually feeling close to someone. Vesper is a quiet bet that we can do better.
01Why Vesper exists
The average person spends two and a half hours a day on social apps and still describes themselves as lonely. The math doesn't add up — unless what those apps offer isn't connection at all, but the appearance of it.
We think the broken piece is performance. Every feed asks you to perform a self before anyone is willing to talk to you. Get your bio right. Get your camera angle right. Get your follower count high enough that strangers feel safe replying. By the time you've done all that, you're not having a conversation — you're managing a brand.
Vesper strips that out. No bio. No follower count. No metrics next to your name. You arrive as a mood, you talk to someone matched to that mood, and what happens after that is between you two.
02What Vesper is
Vesper is an anonymous-by-default chat app organised around moods, not identities.
Mood Matching
Pick one of 27 moods — “3am thoughts”, “need to vent”, “quietly happy” — and we match you with someone in the same state. No swiping, no filtering.
Group Rooms
Small, mood-themed rooms of 4–8 people. Drop in, talk, leave. No persistent membership, no group politics.
Voice Calls
Five-minute voice calls with matched strangers or DMs. Long enough to feel real, short enough that a bad call has a built-in escape.
The Aura System
Instead of follower counts, you build an aura — a quiet reputation for being kind, present, and worth talking to. Aura is private. It only changes how the app treats you, not how others see you.
Save to Circle
If a conversation matters, save the person to your Circle — a small, private list of people you'd like to talk to again. No friend requests, no public follow, no notification to them.
DM Threads
One-to-one chats with people you've matched with or saved. Quiet, low-pressure, and free of read receipts, typing indicators, and last-seen — the stuff that turns messaging into homework.
03What Vesper isn't
- It isn't a dating app. No swiping, no romance-first framing. People do meet here, sometimes — that's fine — but it isn't the product.
- It isn't a feed. Nothing to scroll, nothing to like, no algorithmic timeline competing for your attention.
- It isn't a follower game. You can't farm an audience here. There isn't one to farm.
- It isn't a crisis service. We host real conversations and we take safety seriously, but we're not trained counsellors. The Safety Center lists professional helplines.
04Our principles
Five rules we're holding ourselves to, even when growth tactics would push the other way.
- Anonymous by default. No real name, no photo, no phone-number-as-identity. You can choose to share — that's your call, not the app's.
- No public metrics. No follower counts, no like counts, no view counts. Numbers that exist to be compared shape the platform in bad ways.
- Endings are graceful. Every room, call, and match has a clean exit. Leaving is one tap, no notification to the other side.
- Safety is built-in, not bolted on. Block, report, leave, and mute are one tap from every surface — not buried in a settings menu.
- Quiet by design. No streaks, no “your friend just posted!” pings, no engagement bait. The app should reward you for closing it.
05Who's building it
Vesper is built by a small team at DECCANWAVE LABS (OPC) PRIVATE LIMITED, an independent studio. We're not VC-backed yet, we're not chasing a 10× year, and we don't have a growth team whose job is to make you spend more time in the app.
